Neptune Sydney POP Goes Live at Equinix SY1.
Neptune's Sydney Point of Presence is now online at Equinix SY1, bringing faster, more reliable connectivity to customers across New South Wales. This launch marks a key milestone in expanding our national network with low-latency, high-capacity links to major internet exchanges and transit providers.

Neptune's network just got bigger. Our new Point of Presence (POP) in Sydney is now online at Equinix SY1, joining our existing presence in Melbourne to deliver faster, lower-latency connectivity to customers across New South Wales and beyond.
With Sydney now live, Neptune operates POPs in two major Australian interconnection hubs:
- Melbourne (Equinix ME1), with IP transit provided by Global Secure Layer
- Sydney (Equinix SY1), with IP transit provided by NextHop and Global Secure Layer
This expansion is part of our long-term commitment to building a mature, performance-optimised, privacy-focused network designed from the ground up to serve both residential and business users who expect more from their internet provider.
Why It Matters
The launch of our Sydney POP means lower latency, better routing, and increased resilience for customers in New South Wales and most states where international traffic routes via Sydney. By keeping traffic local where possible, and avoiding unnecessary long-haul paths to Melbourne or overseas, we're able to deliver snappier, more consistent performance—especially for real-time applications like gaming, video conferencing, and remote work.
It also strengthens our national backbone. Protected intercapital connectivity between Sydney and Melbourne allows us to route traffic efficiently and maintain redundancy in the event of outages or congestion in one part of the country.
Built for Flexibility and Performance
To support this growth, we partnered with NextHop in Sydney to provide high-quality IP transit and intercap connectivity. Their infrastructure has enabled us to deploy our own routing stack in SY1, giving us the same level of control and flexibility we have in Melbourne. This means we can optimise routing, manage traffic locally, and respond quickly to network conditions without relying on third parties. It also ensures consistency across our POPs, making it easier to scale and maintain the network as we grow.
What's Next
The new POP is already improving latency and routing performance for many customers in Australia. But it's just the beginning.
We're continuing to expand and invest in the network, with more interconnections, peering, and POPs on the roadmap. Our goal is to make every Neptune connection feel instant, stable, and secure no matter where you are.
